What is the difference between this HANS and the HANS Stand 21 Club Series?
Both are FIA 8858-2010 certified, but the Hybrid Simpson Sport adds the certification SFI 38.1 (US standard), is made of carbon fibre composite in the USA and weighs 950 g. The Stand 21 Club Series weighs 830 g and is an entry-level model. The Simpson also features the quick helmet release system by cord, a function the Stand 21 Club Series does not have. If you compete in categories with SFI regulations or value quick helmet release, the Simpson is the superior choice.
How does the quick helmet release system work?
The Hybrid Simpson Sport straps are designed so the driver can release the helmet simply by pulling a cord attached to it, without having to handle the HANS clip manually. This is especially useful in an emergency, when the driver must exit the vehicle quickly or when assistance personnel need to remove the helmet from a driver who cannot do so themselves.
What is SFI 38.1 certification and why does it matter?
SFI is the American safety certification body, equivalent in purpose to the European FIA but with its own testing protocols. The regulation SFI 38.1 is the specific standard for head and neck restraint devices (HANS/FHR). Some competition categories in the United States specifically require SFI certification, in addition to or instead of FIA. The Hybrid Simpson Sport, holding both certifications, is valid in Europe as well as in American competitions.
Is it compatible with any FIA-approved helmet?
It is compatible with any helmet with FIA 8858-2010 or higher approval that has side anchor points for HANS/Simpson clips. This includes virtually all current competition helmets from well-known brands. If your helmet is older or entry-level, check that it has these anchor points before buying.
Why is it so light compared with other HANS devices on the market?
