Bilstein B6 - B8
Bilstein B6 Performance and B8 Performance Plus Shock Absorbers
Bilstein B6 and B8 shock absorbers are Bilstein's sports range for road cars: gas-pressure monotube shocks with vehicle-specific valving that improve control, stability and driving precision compared with a standard shock absorber.
The difference between the two ranges lies in the spring they will work with: the B6 is designed for the original ride height and springs, and the B8 for cars lowered with sports springs. This category also includes the B6 4600 series, the version for pick-ups, 4x4s, SUVs and vans.
The three ranges in this category
Bilstein B6 Performance A sporty upgrade of the original shock absorber, designed to be fitted with the standard springs and keep the factory ride height. For drivers who want a firmer, more precise car without lowering it. Previously sold as B6 Sport. |
Bilstein B8 Performance Plus The same technology as the B6, but with a shorter body and stroke to work at the ride height of a lowering spring. It is the right choice if you fit sports springs or your car has factory sports suspension. Some applications use inverted (upside-down) technology. Previously sold as B8 Sprint. |
Bilstein B6 4600 (pick-up, 4x4, SUV and van) Direct replacement for the original shock absorber on light trucks and 4x4s at standard ride height. 46 mm monotube with a velocity-sensitive digressive piston and application-specific valving. Designed for daily use, loads and towing. |
B6 or B8? How to choose in 10 seconds
| Your car | Recommended range |
| Car with standard springs and ride height | B6 Performance |
| Car with lowering springs or factory sports suspension | B8 Performance Plus |
| Pick-up, 4x4, SUV or van at standard ride height | B6 4600 |
| You want to replace shocks and springs at the same time | B8 + sports springs |
Gas-pressure monotube technology
Unlike a conventional twin-tube shock absorber, the Bilstein monotube works with a single chamber: the oil and the high-pressure gas are separated by a floating piston. As a result, the oil does not aerate under hard use and damping stays consistent with no loss of performance, even on rough roads, during sporty driving or with a loaded vehicle.
Consistent response: no fade caused by the oil heating up. |
More grip and stability: the wheel stays in contact with the road. |
Vehicle-specific valving: each part number is developed and tested for its vehicle. |
Direct fit: installed on the original mounting points, with no modifications. |
How to find the shock absorber for your car
Use the Bilstein B6-B8 finder at the top of the page: select make, model, engine, date and body type to see only compatible part numbers. Each product states whether it is for the front or rear axle. We always recommend replacing shock absorbers in pairs on the same axle so the car handles in a balanced way.
If you are unsure which range you need or your car has modified springs, write to us with the exact model and we will confirm the part number before you buy. Looking for other ranges from the brand? See all Bilstein shock absorbers or the rest of our performance shock absorbers.
