What does it mean for a silicone hose to be "3-ply"?

It means the hose is made of three layers: inner silicone in contact with the fluid or air, a reinforcing fabric mesh (usually fire-resistant Nomex or Terylene) in the middle, and an outer silicone layer. This construction makes it much more resistant to pressure and temperature than a plain silicone or plastic hose, without losing flexibility.

Do silicone hoses pass the vehicle inspection (ITV)?

Yes, replacing an original hose with a reinforced silicone one is not a problem at the ITV as long as it serves the same function and does not alter the homologated characteristics of the intake or cooling system. It is not a part that needs to be declared as a substantial modification. If you have doubts about a specific case, ask us before buying.

How do I know what hose diameter I need?

All the sizes given in our references are internal diameters. Measure the internal diameter of the original hose or the pipe it will connect to at both ends, and compare it with the reference. If the hose is a reducer, you will need the inlet and outlet diameters. If in doubt, contact us with your vehicle model or the part you want to replace.

What is the difference between a universal hose and a vehicle-specific kit?

Universal hoses (elbows, reducers, straight sections) can be used for any installation and are cut or adapted as needed. A vehicle-specific kit is custom-designed to directly replace all the original hoses of a particular model and engine, with the exact factory shape and connections, so installation is much more straightforward.

What pressure and temperature can these hoses withstand?

Thanks to the 3-ply reinforcement with Nomex or Terylene fabric, these hoses withstand working pressures and temperatures far above those of a plastic or plain silicone hose. That is why they are the standard in forced induction, turbo and intercooler systems, where the original hose often ends up cracked or deformed over time.

Why does the original turbo or intercooler hose crack or collapse?

Factory hoses are usually made of cheaper plastic or rubber, designed for the conditions of a standard engine. When boost pressure is increased or the hose is exposed to constant heat in performance builds, this material hardens, shrinks and eventually cracks, causing boost leaks. Replacing it with reinforced silicone solves this problem for good.

Can I fit the silicone hoses myself?

Yes, installation is simple with basic tools: they are secured with the same clamps as the original hose. With vehicle-specific kits, the process is practically plug and play. With universal installations (elbows, reducers), you may need to cut the section to the exact length before fitting.
