Threaded Suspensions

Coilover suspensions are designed for those drivers who want to have total control over the suspension parameters, regulating the height and hardness of their suspensions.

There are several types of threaded shock absorbers on the market, also called coilovers . We will explain the differences.

The easiest way is to differentiate them in terms of price range, thus distinguishing three groups.

• Cheap threaded suspensions: Up to approximately €400 (you won't find them on this website)
• Mid-range coilovers: from €400 to €800
• High-end threaded suspensions: from €800 to infinity (or almost).

Cheap threaded suspensions.

Although we have already made it clear that you will not find this type of suspension on our website if it is necessary to talk about them.

They are the simplest on the market, they are called low-cost threaded, and they come from almost 100% China.

They do not serve a sporting purpose but rather an aesthetic one. They are designed for those drivers who are looking for height adjustment to be able to find the exact height point for their vehicle.

The performance is in line with its price, having a hardness around 15-30% greater than the original suspension, even though it is not a suspension oriented to trackdays since due to the mechanical demands this type of driving can shorten its useful life by 90%.

The main brands that sell cheap threaded fittings are: JOM, TA Technix Blue line, FK Automotive .

They are usually mounted on small utility vehicles: Saxo, Clio, 206 etc.

Mid-range coilovers.

They represent the perfect balance between price and quality, most of them are made in Europe.

Many of them already incorporate a narrow spring and are aimed at drivers looking for a quality adjustment in a simple way, when looking for occasional sporty driving on the road or track days.

Most of these suspensions in this range are not adjustable in hardness and come with a fixed but sportier setting than the originals, around 25-40%.

In this group we will find brands such as: V-Maxx, TA Technix Red Line, Eibach, St Suspension, Ap Suspension, Vogtland, H&R bitubo, Bilstein PSS, KW V1 ...etc.

Used in vehicles up to 150 hp such as VW Golf, R-Clio, Ford Focus, BMW Series 3, Audi A3

High-end threaded suspensions.

We include in this category suspensions of more than 800e.

We will mainly talk about high-end threaded wheels for street use.

In this range we have suspensions adjustable in various parameters such as height, hardness, compression, rebound, drops, etc.

Mainly indicated for drivers looking for a highly sporty performance. Suitable for high-performance passenger cars and drivers who like to set up their car, try different settings and experience different behaviours of their car.

We have two subgroups:

• Made in Europe: we find brands such as Bilstein, H&R, KW, EIBACH, Koni
• Made in Asia: with the highest quality and under European supervision, we find brands such as BC Racing, K-Sport, XYZ Racing, D2 Racing

One of the main characteristics that differentiate them from their European competitors is that The height can be adjusted independently of the spring preload without affecting the travel of the shock absorber. For this purpose, they have a threaded body that is coupled with a threaded cylinder. The height can be lowered without fear of the shock absorber hitting its limit.

The performance and features are superior to the previous ones, the quality of the materials is superior and they can be subjected to more extreme conditions. The use of high-quality hydraulics and metals delays fatigue due to high temperatures and high mechanical demand, equipped with a narrow spring load and preload, they are adjustable in compression/extension from a comfortable setup to a purely Sport one. Some brands include rigid aluminum cups with uniball joints and a system to regulate the camber.
